„After a first job as solo environment consultant engineer, I discovered basketry by chance at the end of 1999 and became a professional basketmaker in 2001 at the age of 35. This humble commitment consisting in making a living from an activity to keep this activity alive is very imporrtant for me. I’m self taught, and try to learn and improve my skill all the time; my favorite techniques are scallomed stakes baskets, some frame baskets, and basketry for England or Brittany.

I grow by hand about ten willow varieties on a 1.500 m² willow bed in my small village of Dordogne, south west of France.“

Michael beschäftigt sich seit bald 40 Jahren mit der Korbflechterei auf den Gebieten des Entwurfs und der Produktion von Flechtarbeiten, der Restaurierung und Forschung für verschiedene Museen, der Pädagogik an Waldorfschulen, er arbeitet als Arbeitsgruppenleiter in einer Werkstatt für Menschen mit Behinderungen und gibt Kurse für Menschen, die am Flechten Interesse haben.

Artist and basketmaker Tim Johnson has exhibited and taken part in residencies throughout the UK and internationally over the last 20 years including projects in Australia, Denmark, Newfoundland, Ireland, the USA and Uzbekistan.

Originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne Tim has lived in various parts of England and Ireland and is currently based in the north east of Spain just outside Barcelona.

Tim is an experienced tutor and has recently been awarded the prestigious Marsh Award for Excellence in Gallery Education and several awards for his baskets in Spain and Poland.

Tim combines a deep respect for traditional basketmaking techniques with his own innovations and enjoys using a wide variety of materials and techniques gleaned from his travels, research and his own creative practice.

„I start learning basketry in 1989.
Since 1991 I have been researching and teaching Spanish basketry.
I´ve been several courses in Spain and others European countries (France, United Kindgom , Scotland, Denmark, Poland, Portugal,…).
I wrote two books about basketry: “Cestería de los pueblos de Galicia” and “Más que cestos. Cestería popular española”.

„I am a traditional trained basketmaker and learned the fundations of my craft at the German basketry school in Lichtenfels. Since then I increased my knowledge and repertoire by learning with other crafts and fellow craftsman. I specialized in willow skein work. This very time consuming techniques is my absolute weaving passion. I work for designers, museums and currently I am developing my own collection. Next to that I like to teach basketry not only willow skein work but also other techniques and materials.

Monica learnt basketmaking in the Catalan tradition combining willow and split European cane, with over 17 years of making and teaching experience she has a wide repertoire and enjoys designing contemporary functional baskets. One of Monica’s specialities is the Nansa fishtrap technique that has been used by fisherman around the Mediterranean since ancient times, with deep roots and a modern sensibility Monica’s work explores colour, form and pattern ideal for the contemporary home.

Mònica work has been exhibited widely in Europe with contributions to recent exhibitions in Finland, Germany, Denmark and France, as an experienced tutor she teaches internationally and her workshops are always in demand.

Flechten, Kreieren, Weitergeben
Diese drei Verben sind es, die VALERIE LAVAURE seit 2006 in ihrem Atelier in Uzès/Südfrankreich dekliniert.
Ihre Begegnung mit und die Faszination für die Korbflechterei geht auf die 2000er-Jahre zurück.
Nach verschiedenen Praktika bei Korbmachern sowie bei der Kooperative Vilaines les Rochers und der Korbmacherschule in Fayl Billot war es für Valérie klar, das es dieses Handwerk sein muss.
Und Valérie ist mitten drin und lässt sich täglich durch den Austausch sowohl von anderen Korbmachern als auch mit anderen Handwerkern unterschiedlicher Gewerke anregen und bereichern.
Inspiriert von den Traditionen der verschiedenen Korbmacherinnen, mit denen sie zusammen-arbeitet, lässt sich Valérie Lavaure von den Farben der verschiedenen Flechtmaterialien inspirieren, um klassische Formen neu zu gestalten und ihre eigenen Modelle zu kreieren. Ihre Körbe sind im Wesentlichen nütz-lich, aber zugleich auch poetisch, phantasievoll und feminin.

Benjamin interpretiert die traditionelle französische Flechtkunst künstlerisch neu. Aus Weidenruten, -Schienen und Hasel fertigt der studierte Ökologe und Fotokünstler hochwertige Schwingen, gestäbte Körbe sowie klassische Korbmodelle. Im Zentrum seines gesamten Schaffens steht diese eine große Idee: Zurück zum Kreislauf der Natur.
